Day 10-No More Buying New Clothes

Sunday, January 10, 2010
I have a closet full of clothes but never anything I want to wear. My solution is usually to hop in the car, head to the mall and find something new. That is not a very budget friendly or eco-friendly approach though. Think of the resources required to make the clothes I already have. Why let them go to waste by pushing these articles even further into the closet and buying new things that I don't need?

For the rest of the year, I will not buy any new clothes. I can only imagine how thrilled my husband will be to find this out. Rather than buying new, I will dig the old clothes out of the closet and start wearing them, or if I'm in a pinch, I will allow myself to buy second hand clothes. I'm also going to use this opportunity to get creative and maybe modify some articles to suit me better.

I just found your blog and I'm really interested to see how it goes. I am also blogging about my experiences in Going Green in 2010, but I like your idea of doing one green thing every day! Good luck!

Check out the you tube videos by Thread Banger. They show a lot of ways to revamp your old clothes. I'm thinking about making a skirt out of old t-shirts. I'm also about to turn some worn out jeans into a hippie style skirt.
