I was out of laundry soap! It was the perfect excuse to do something green- make my own laundry soap. Because I used all eco friendly ingredients, I don't have to worry about chemicals seeping into my skin through my clothes. I looked at my box of Tide and it didn't even include an ingredient list, which concerned me and got me wondering just what I had been washing my clothes in. Maybe they had been better off just not being washed! One thing I did notice is that the box was made of 100% recycled material, which made me happy, but it wasn't enough to make me want to buy this product again. So I am happily washing my clothes in phosphate free, homemade eco friendly laundry soap.
From now on, I will not be purchasing commercial laundry soap, but rather making it myself.
Want to make your own? Here is the recipe:
Powdered Laundry Detergent
- 2 cups grated Fels Naptha soap (you could also use Sunlight, Ivory or any other bar of soap that is not heavily perfumed)
- 1 cup Washing soda (not to be confused with Baking soda)
- 1 cup Borax

I just did the same thing today!
I use those same ingredients and make mine a liquid. I haven't done the calculating myself, but apparently it's about 3 cents a load. Also, instead of ay kind of softener, I use white vinegar. It helps hold in color, softens, and prevent sstatic so you don't have to use Bounce. You could make Bounce one of your daily entries. It's awful stuff!
Have you tried Demetria Organics' soap nuts?

Thanks for all you are doing! I am enjoying reading about your adventures!
